TFL and Laminate

Thermally fused laminate (TFL) and standard laminates have both come a long way in way in terms of quality and performance. These high-quality, wood-based solutions are ideal for vertical and horizontal furniture and interior design applications, with a variety of authentic designs and textures available.
While TFL and laminates are produced differently, the same decorative paper can be used for both products to create an ideal surface match. Pair these decorative surfaces with our matching edge banding to achieve truly flawless surface-to-edge designs.
Discover the differences between TFL and laminates, and the advantages of each product:

Thermally Fused Laminate (TFL)

Laminates

  • Pre-fabricated, wood-based particleboard panels have melamine resin-soaked decorative paper fused onto both sides
  • Easy to process on typical panel processing equipment
  • Pre-fabrication saves valuable time and money, eliminating the need for lamination and finishing lines (just cut and apply edge banding)
  • Impact and wear resistant, suitable for low- to mid-traffic areas and vertical applications
  • Can be used for harmonious designs when used with matching laminates and edge banding

  • Made of melamine resin-impregnated decorative paper and phenolic resin-impregnated kraft paper (high impact resistance) in the core
  • Overlay provides high wear resistance
  • Versatile, flexible and postformable (standard laminates only)
  • Must be applied to a substrate, such as particleboard or MDF
  • Can be used for harmonious designs when used with matching TFL and edge banding

Eurodekor TFL Particleboard

Our Eurodekor TFL particleboard is produced by permanently fusing resin-impregnated decor paper directly onto both sides of our Eurospan Particleboard substrate. Heat and pressure activate the resin to effectively seal the paper onto the substrate so that it won’t peel away.

TFL boards are not only durable and fade-resistant, they reproduce the look and feel of realistic woodgrain, concrete, or material designs. TFL panels are manufactured with enhanced performance characteristics that deliver the features you need to fulfill your design vision.

In addition to residential settings, TFL is appropriate for healthcare, hospitality, retail and other commercial settings. It is an ideal material for both horizontal and vertical applications in furniture and interior design, including:

  • Cabinets
  • Closet Systems
  • Office Furniture
  • Store Fixtures
  • Architectural Wall Paneling

EGGER Laminates Laminates are considered to be some of the most hard-wearing, durable and versatile decorative surface materials. Being fade-resistant, they are ideal for high-traffic horizontal and curved applications. Our standard laminates are also postformable, making them ideal for countertops.
Our laminates offer a multi-layer construction. They are made by fusing melamine resin-impregnated decorative surface paper with multiple core layers of phenolic resin-impregnated kraft paper, a balancer paper and a wear-resistant top layer with high pressure and heat. Laminates must be bonded to a substrate, such as particleboard or MDF, during the finishing process.

Laminates are ideal for a variety of residential and commercial applications, such as:

  • Tabletops and desktops
  • Countertops and backsplash panels
  • Cabinets
  • Door Elements and wall claddings
