A forest with many trees

The Sustainable Development Goal 15 aims to protect and restore terrestrial ecosystems and promote their sustainable use. Our forests and their sustainable management play a particularly important role in this. Forests store water, safeguard biodiversity and provide the natural and renewable resource wood. As they grow, trees absorb CO₂ and store carbon. Sustainable forest management helps to safeguard these functions in the long term. Wood can be used as a renewable raw material. The cascading use of wood plays a central role in this.

Internationally recognised standard

Our wood supply chain can be designated as third-party verified . The majority of our plants are certified to ISO 38200. Other certification systems we use at defined locations are FSC® and PEFC. (FSC® C017963 and PEFC/06-38-171) Details of the respective certifications of our plants can be found in our download section below. The EGGER Group uses processes and control mechanisms to ensure compliance with the applicable requirements regarding the legality and transparency of the wood used.

Control measures by independent third parties

The EGGER Group sources preferentially, subject to availability, wood from certified forests as evidence of sustainable forest management. This includes FSC® and PEFC-certified sources.

We use wood in a multi-stage process

Sawmills produce timber from high-quality roundwood. For our wood-based materials, however, we use wood assortments such as sawmill by-products, industrial wood unsuitable for sawing, thinning wood and recycled wood. This enables these valuable resources to be used as materials.

We rely on the use of wood from the circular economy.

66% of the wood used across the Group in our wood-based materials came in the 2025/2026 financial year from recycled material and by-products from the sawmill industry.

Our commitment

The EGGER Group supports the principles of sustainable forest management. These are aimed at ensuring that only as much wood is taken from the forest as can grow back. It is about striking a balance between wood use and the forest's capacity to regenerate. Through our Due Diligence System and defined control measures, we verify the legality of the wood sources we use. Compliance with applicable legal requirements goes without saying for us. EGGER operates a zero-tolerance policy towards illegal logging.

  • As part of our EGGER Due Diligence System (Due Diligence System), we check and monitor compliance with legal and social standards in our supply chains: Our Due Diligence System was developed with internal and external experts. It is based on the ISO 38200 for the supply chain of wood and wood-based products. It regulates the transfer of information along the entire product chain of wood and wood-based products.
  • Our Due Diligence System is certified in accordance with the recognised supply chain standards . (ISO 38200, FSC® or PEFC)
  • At least annual internal and external audits verify compliance with our respective certifications (ISO 38200, FSC® or PEFC) at our plants in accordance with the certification requirements. Certificates for our locations can be found in the download section below.
  • We also implement control measures that go beyond legal requirements: as a company that purchases wood and does not own any forests, EGGER generally has no direct influence on sustainable forest management. We therefore carry out annual risk assessments for every supplier and, where necessary, additional stringent checks in the upstream wood supply chain all the way back to the forest.
  • We refuse acceptance of deliveries whose documentation is incomplete or whose wood origin is uncertain. We support the competent authorities in investigating such cases.
  • Whenever possible, we preferentially purchase wood regionally near our plants.
  • We procure our wood primarily through direct business relationships and avoid dealer structures. This supports transparency throughout the process.
  • Subject to availability, we preferentially source wood from certified forests. In doing so, we rely on the recognised FSC® and PEFC certification systems for sustainable forest management.
  • Our Manufacturer's declaration on the origin of wood discloses the origin of the wood and shows the proportion of certified wood by product group and supplying plant (calculated and monitored in accordance with ISO 38200).
