The Sustainable Development Goal 12 calls for more efficient use of natural resources. One approach is the circular economy: in line with the circular economy, the proportion of secondary raw materials, such as recycled material, should be maximised. The waste generation is to be significantly reduced by prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse.
Good to know
Working in cycles that are as closed as possible
From tree to product: we rely on integrated sites where raw materials, production and logistics processes are closely interconnected. When using wood, the principle of cascading use is a key guiding principle for us. Our goal is to use wood as a material for as long as possible and only utilize it for energy once further material use is no longer possible.
Our commitments
The EGGER Group is pursuing the goal of increasing the proportion of recycled wood used in particleboard production: by 2030, we aim to raise the proportion of recycled wood in all the wood we use for particleboard production to 50% across the Group. To achieve this, we are making targeted investments in processing technology at our plants and in our collection infrastructure.
- Working in cycles that are as closed as possible is our goal.
- We use predominantly wood from the circular economy in the manufacture of our wood-based materials: this includes recycled wood and by-products of the sawmill industry.
- The recycled wood comes from discarded goods such as old furniture, palettes or board offcuts.
- We procure the recycled material from qualified waste disposal companies or from our own recycling collection sites.
- We use suitable material intended for material recycling. Strict quality standards and quality inspections apply to both recycled wood and the finished product.
- We first used already in 1995 recycled wood in our production and have built up expertise ever since.
- As they grow, trees absorb CO2 and the carbon remains temporarily stored in the wood throughout its useful life . With every chip that is recycled as a material, we can extend this storage effect .
To help supply our plants with recycled wood, we focus on active backward integration and operate our own recycling collection sites under the name EGGER Timberpak. We would like to further expand this network.
- You can see where we already have recycling collection points here in overview .
- With our collection sites, we have supported the development of structures for collecting and processing recycled wood in selected countries.
- At our Timberpak locations recycled wood from the respective region is collected, sorted and pre-shredded for transport to our plants. The final processing takes place there.
- Turning recycled wood into a high-quality board material requires special facilities to process the material. We continue to invest in new recycling processing facilities at our production sites.

Measures and progress
Every step counts! These are the measures we have most recently implemented in our efforts to further expand our use of recycled wood.
