The High Borrans harvesting site located in the Lake District is a fantastic example of EGGER Forestry working directly with a landowner in order to deliver a quality service; felling, extracting and dispatching over 1,000 tonnes of timber in a short period of time.

EGGER Forestry employed specialist contractors to undertake this challenging work. The harvesting and extracting of the timber to the roadside was carried out to a very high standard, the contractor made sure that watercourses (flowing directly into a local nature reserve) were given full protection, and felled the timber in a way that maximised financial return to the landowner.

The haulier had a pragmatic and pro-active approach, which included engagement with regular road users on the narrow country roads, to ensure smooth access to and from the site. The wagons were all low ground pressure, wagon and drag vehicles helping to reduce the impact on the public and private road network.

EGGER Forestry coordinated the activities on site to make sure operations were conducted safely and considered the environment. EGGER Forestry’s prominent position within the timber supply chain ensured the landowner received the best financial return on their timber, with a range of products cut in order to optimise this, including saw logs, strainers, fence posts, shaver bars and chipwood.

The felling work was carried out under an approved felling licence, with the landowner planning to replant this site with native broadleaves, in keeping with the local landscape.

“The woodland is situated in close proximity to a SSSI stream so precautions needed to be taken. This was taken into consideration and all requirements were met and carried out with due diligence.

The felling and removal of the wood was carried out to a very high standard with minimum disruption. The haulage company liaised with the local business to ensure that the road did not become blocked.”
