Spadeadam Forest, Northumberland

Our clearfell site in Spadeadam forest is just 50km from EGGER’s production plant in Hexham. Located on the southern edge of Kielder Forest, Spadeadam forest forms a part of the largest man-made productive forest in western Europe.

Spadeadam forest is sustainably managed by Forestry England, ensuring that clear traceability from the forest to the end-user is guaranteed through management practices and accreditation adherence.

Spadeadam forest is characterised by rolling hills and sensitive soil types, thus our harvesting operations require a high level of planning and the use of specialised purpose built machinery to ensure our partner contractors can maintain the safety of their operators, machinery and the protection of the soil structure. The vista from our harvesting site clearly shows how this forest has been managed responsibly, the productive process supporting a number of important habitats.

The 10 year partnership with the state, which is managed by Forestry England, guarantees 20,000 tonnes of standing timber to be harvested per year, ensuring a secure supply of wood.

Once cut, 60% of each tree harvested goes to a local sawmill to be sawn into elements suitable for housing components, pallets and fence posts. The remaining 40% is sent directly to the production plant in Hexham to be processed and used within chipboard panels.
