New £15m investment
Hexham recycling plant

The latest testament to our commitment to the environment is a £15m investment into our on-site wood recycling operations. The move will allow us to increase recycled wood content in our chipboard products for interiors and construction.

As the biggest user of recycled timber in the UK wood panel industry, this latest investment is vital in ensuring EGGER maintains a consistent supply of quality used timber and continues to create a market for products that keeps waste wood away from biomass or landfill.

Employing state of the art technology, the new recycling plant segregates, cleans, and chips waste wood, retaining stored carbon in the material. The process ensures the highest quality of raw material, so EGGER can ensure specifiers that board quality is maintained.

The move responds to the demand from the interior design and housebuilding industries for more environmentally conscious products. EGGER is a major supplier to these industries, so it is important that we lead the way in sustainable product innovation.

Increased recycled content contributes to the carbon negative status of our P2 (furniture) and P5 (structural) grade chipboard products, allowing EGGER materials to take specifiers even further towards their net zero and negative carbon targets.
