Timberpak Ltd has built up a strong 20-year long partnership with Leeds City Council, recycling 12,500 tonnes of wood for them annually. Recently, Timberpak were delighted to win the tender for another 4-year relationship with the Council. As such a long-standing partner, we invited the team to our Hexham site in August 2024, so we could demonstrate to them how their recycled wood becomes part of our quality EGGER chipboard.
Leeds City Council encourage households to re-use surplus timber where possible, however recommend that households take any unwanted wood to their nearest Council-run recycling centre. The higher-grade wood received at these recycling centres is collected, sorted and processed by Timberpak and delivered to the EGGER manufacturing site in Hexham to be made into top quality chipboards, that are then used by the furniture, building and flooring sectors.
By making use of recycled wood in this way, we positively contribute to the circular economy, conserving natural resources and giving wood another useful life, as part of our closed loop cycle. The carbon dioxide captured during the growth of the tree is locked in the chipboard for the lifetime of the product, contributing to EGGER’s pledge to achieve net zero by 2050.
Through our partnership and over time, both Leeds City Council and Timberpak have grown and evolved together, developing and adapting to continue to champion sustainability, as well as increasing our contribution to the circular economy.
EGGER has an ongoing requirement for waste wood. We therefore never turn waste wood away from any of our sites across Timberpak Yorkshire, Timberpak North East, Timberpak Scotland and Timberpak South East. We provide continuity and reliability for all our customers, whether they are a large furniture group, a civic amenity site, an industrial user, or a waste management company.
