Lexington, N.C. (April 30, 2021) – EGGER, one of the world’s leading wood-based materials suppliers, has made a $1,500 donation to the United Way of Davidson County following the company’s 3rd annual EGGER Runs event. The donation, presented to the United Way this week, will support the United Way’s efforts to provide education, health and financial resources for local residents.

Thirty EGGER employees, apprentices and their families from the Lexington facility laced up their running shoes for the EGGER Runs event, which was held virtually this year to ensure the health and safety of participants. In total, local EGGER participants logged more than 188 miles – the distance from Lexington to Myrtle Beach!
The EGGER Runs program encourages employees to get outside and get moving while supporting local non-profits. Traditionally, EGGER plants support local running events, with EGGER donating to a selected cause based on the total distance completed by participating employees. With large running events currently on pause, the program went virtual. While many employees ran or walked individually, tracking their distance through an app on their smartphones, some employees planned small group outings to run, walk or even hike for a good cause.

“Anytime we can come together outside of work to support our neighbors is a good day,” said Carsten Ritterbach, plant manager for commercial services. “We appreciate all of our employees and their families who took time out to participate in this fun event and give back to the community. We hope our contribution to the local United Way will help make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.”

This year, nearly 650 EGGER employees worldwide participated in EGGER Run events at plants throughout Europe and South America, logging almost 5,000 miles total and raising more than $47,000. Each plant will donate their proceeds to charities within their local communities.
