Think about what you need and how you're going to get it to the right place
How many packs will you need, what accessories do you need, is there enough space in your car for everything? It is essential that you measure your room precisely before you go shopping so that you can correctly calculate how much you need and avoid unnecessary waste. The packs vary in size according to the flooring you choose. Have you opted for an extra-long style? Then you need to make sure you've got a big enough vehicle. If you're getting it delivered, make sure you're home to receive it so you can make sure it's put where you want it!

Don't forget the extras!
When you are buying flooring, think about the extras you'll need to lay it. Make sure you purchase the right vapour barrier for the type of surface on which your new flooring is going. Insulating underlay will help reduce the sounds of footsteps and soften the room’s acoustics. To enhance the walls, we'd recommend a skirting board that complements either the floor or the wall. In doorways, in large rooms or where two different types of flooring meet, the right edging strip or trim will create a smooth and subtle transition.

The right tools
These floorboards can be clicked together without the need for extra tools; however, you will need to cut them to the right length for your room. This is best done with a fine-toothed jigsaw or hand-held circular saw. In addition to that, you will also need a square, a folding rule and pencil for measuring and marking the boards themselves. Wall spacers will help you to maintain an appropriate distance between the edge joints.

Good preparation halves the work!
Once you've made sure you've got all the right materials and tools, you can make a start on preparing the ground so that the floor can be laid without any issues! As your new flooring may have experienced a variety of temperatures and humidity levels during transportation, it's important to let it rest in the room it's going to be laid in before installation. Ideally, leave the boards in their packaging, unopened, in the room for at least 48 hours. We would always advise that you thoroughly read the installation instructions provided with the flooring before you start work so you can make sure you've done everything you need to ensure smooth and stress-free progress. Don't forget the lighting or the layout!
The impression any room gives is noticeable affected by both the direction of the floorboards and their layout. When deciding on the direction you want the floorboards to go in, don't forget to consider the room's lighting as well as its size. Floorboards often work best when they are laid parallel to the direction in which the light falls. If the existing flooring in the room is parquet or wooden floorboards, then the new flooring should be laid across it, i.e. if the existing floorboards run lengthways, then lay the new ones crossways. The layout of the floorboards can also be decisive when it comes to the overall visual effect of the room. Particularly for floorboards with bevelled edges, you need to decide in advance if they are going to be laid symmetrically or asymmetrically. Then all that's left is to roll up your sleeves and get stuck in!
