Building sustainably with EGGER building products

Our contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals

  • Environmental contribution of the EGGER building products
  • More transparency of the EGGER building products
  • Healthy building and living with EGGER building products

Sustainability and environmental protection plays a key role everywhere today. Anyone who builds with wood, is making an important contribution to environmental protection. Among other things, wood grows back in just a few decades, serves as a carbon storage and ensures a healthy indoor climate. In this way, we are also making a contribution to achieving the sustainable development goals (SDG) of the United Nations.

Renewable resource wood: EGGER sustainability indicators

The figures of our sustainability indicators are updated annually. They make the environmental performance of each individual product transparent and easy to understand and can be found in the building products section of the EGGER website, under "More transparency" for the respective product.
  • Sustainability indicators OSB3

One of our sustainability indicators is the contribution to the bioeconomy. This shows how high the proportion of renewable raw materials is in the manufacture of a product. On average, 94% renewable resources are used in the production of all our EGGER building products.

    Using OSB 3 to explore

  • Responsible consumption and production

With the high share of the renewable resource wood in our building products, we are making a contribution to the SDG 12 of the United Nations – responsible consumption and production.

SDG stands for Sustainable Development Goals. These are 17 goals for sustainable development, which include social, ecological and economic aspects. You can find further details on the development goals in the current EGGER Sustainability Report.

Carbon storage product wood: Environmental product declarations

We have recently updated the "EPD" (Environmental Product Declaration) of our DHF underlay board. Our environmental product declarations enable you to determine the environmental contribution of EGGER building products. This reliable database gives you more clarity and control when comparing different products and construction methods.
  • Environmental Product Declarations

CO₂ balance sheets are part of the life cycle assessments that we calculate for our products. We have them externally verified and publish them as EPDs. Our wood-based building products actually store more CO₂ than their production causes. This positive contribution is reflected in the balance sheet as a value below zero.

  • Climate action

The storage of CO₂ in our wood based building products is an important contribution to climate protection. To underline the importance of this issue, we have set the UN Sustainable Development Goal SDG 13 as a strategic priority for us. You can find more details on this in our current EGGER Sustainability Report.

Green building and healthy living with our building products

In order to make green building certification easy we have issued environmental and health datasheets for our building products. The documents contain externally verified product information to meet the requirements of the leading green building certification systems DGNB, BNB, LEED and BREEAM.
  • Indoor air quality

An important criterion in building certification is the indoor air quality. On average, Central Europeans spend up to 90% of their time indoors. Wood has a positive effect on the indoor climate and on people.

  • Good health and well-being

Healthy spaces are a basic prerequisite for well-being and performance. That is why we focus on the Sustainable Development Goal SDG 3 of the United Nations. You can find more information on this in the current EGGER Sustainability Report.
