Scottish Minister praises EGGER for its apprenticeship scheme

Scottish Minister Jeane Freeman (centre) meets with EGGER employees.
We recently welcomed MSP Jeane Freeman, Scottish Minister for Social Security and MSP for Cumnock and Doon Valley to our Auchinleck site.

MSP Freeman’s visit was to find out more about our apprenticeship scheme and its continuing development.

The Scottish Minister met with Heiko Lichtblau, Plant Director Production and Technical, to discuss apprenticeship opportunities with the company and took a tour of the apprenticeship facilities.

Discussions centred on the different types of apprenticeships available and the continued development of the programme, including the introduction of a new manufacturing/production apprentice scheme.

Heiko Lichtblau, commented: "Over the years our apprenticeship programme has gone from strength to strength. We offer mechanical fitting, electrical engineering, laboratory and from this year, the newly established manufacturing/production apprenticeship scheme. Many of our former apprentices have gone on to develop their careers with us and now have key roles within the business."

A tour of the dedicated Apprenticeship workshop provided the opportunity for the Scottish Minister to meet with current apprentices and chat about their EGGER journey so far.

Minister for Social Security Jeane Freeman, explained: "I was extremely impressed with the level of apprenticeship investment the company has made. Talking to their mechanical and laboratory apprentices it is clear to see how much the apprentices are valued. I very much welcome the extent to which companies are investing in our local workforce to provide vital skills for the region."
