Timber Harvesting Case Study

East Strone sits 250 m above sea level and forms part of the extensive Cowal forest in Argyll.

The site has a number of challenges being predominantly peaty, mean annual rainfall is 3,000 mm and the open westerly aspect is prone to exposed growing conditions and damage from wind.

These products are then transported by boat across the Firth of Clyde. By using this method of transportation the haulage distance is significantly reduced leading to a reduction in fuel consumption and traffic congestion along alternative haulage routes.

"In the last few years EGGER forestry has proven themselves to be a reliable, efficient and a competitive, company who manage their operations to a very high standard. FIM look forward to continue working with them in the future."

Colin Lees-Millais FIM
