Given the scale of growth investments in the EGGER manufacturing sites and operations, the vision of the EGGER Group to be the leading brand for wood-based solutions has to be long-term.

To support the delivery of this vision, EGGER maintains an active commitment to investing in people and over recent years this has been the foundation of a successful training programmes which runs throughout the EGGER Group.

Taking this philosophy into our UK Forestry business, a one-year long forestry student placement has been offered for the past few years now.

Most recently, Joey Oliver, a third year BSc Forestry student from the National School of Forestry in Ambleside, joined us to undertake a placement where he was able to get involved with a broad range of forestry activities. It also provided the opportunity to learn about our core values and gain an understanding of our wood procurement business.

Basing himself centrally in Moffat, Scottish Borders, for the year, Joey was able to expand his knowledge of forestry and managed to see a number of operations through from their inception to completion. Involvement in both the EGGER Forest Management and EGGER Timber Harvesting teams allowed Joey to fully appreciate the challenges that managers face in planning and delivering our services.

Reflecting upon his year, Joey commented: “ The year has gone so quickly and has been a fantastic opportunity for me to learn from some experienced managers in both Forest Management and Harvesting. I am immensely grateful to EGGER for providing me this challenging role and am certain that this will help me throughout my career.

“Prior to heading back to university, EGGER Forestry also allowed me time to collect data for my final year dissertation which means I’ll have more time to spend analysing the result, a big help in what is going to be an exciting year.”

Commenting on Joey’s time at EGGER Forestry, General Manager Mike Yerbury said: “ Joey had a great year with us and made a valued contribution to our forestry activities performance. We fully acknowledge the opportunity this type of engagement provides our business and the student and we will endeavour to continue with this philosophy to help invest in forestry’s future professional managers.”
