Marble is well-known for its use in bathrooms and kitchens, most often as work surfaces. But more recently this classic has been appearing as an accent on furniture.
This eye-catching vein has recently attained greater use in design circles; it is increasingly being used as front panels, or even as complete kitchen units and furniture. This trend was further highlighted at this year's Milan Furniture Fair and at Euro Cucina, also in Milan.
These events saw this classic redefined, and not just in how it is used. Until recently, marble and marble reproductions had always been highly-polished, with an almost-gloss finish. Now, however, they are becoming more and more prevalent in matt and by extension, even more elegant.
Today's soft-veined, lighter variations, such as F812 White Levanto Marble, with the gentle and warming PerfectSense Matt finish, are primarily used as cabinet front panels, or even as wall coverings.
The ideal companions to marble can be found in the lively and natural wood finishes of H2032 ST10 Light Hunton Oak, H3711 ST9 Tobacco Carini Walnut, H3406 ST38 Anthracite Mountain Larch or H1400 ST36 Attic Wood. When it comes to monochrome palettes, the combinations are endless: from the popular taupe tones, black and white – mostly found in kitchens – to the prominent accent colours found in furniture.
