In July of last year we announced the greenfield investment, and now the construction machinery is up and running. We are starting construction work on our new wood-based materials plant in Lexington, North Carolina, USA, on schedule.
The state-of-the-art chipboard plant with lamination capacities is scheduled to go on stream by the end of 2020. This first project phase involves an investment volume of around EUR 260 million and will create 400 direct jobs within the next six years.
The site will play a decisive role in EGGER's growing presence in the North American market for wood-based materials. Having a local production plant will secure product availability for EGGER customers in the region and increase speed of delivery.

In March of this year, we had already begun construction of an administration building in Lexington, NC. Construction work is progressing according to plan, with completion scheduled for spring 2019. There will be space for approximately 80 administrative employees. In the visitors forum, we will present its products and services to customers, interested parties, and other stakeholders. In addition, we are setting up a training centre there to train and promote local professionals.
In September 2018, in collaboration with Davidson County Community College (DCCC), we launched a training programme for apprentices in Lexington, NC. This programme is an important part of our efforts to develop a highly qualified workforce for the new plant in Lexington and at the same time invest in the local community.
