  • Title of the new guideline fire-safety in timber buildings

We recommend a technical guideline on the fire-safe use of wood in buildings

The very first Europe-wide technical guideline on the fire-safe use of wood in buildings has been published. The guideline - Fire safety in timber buildings - is issued at a crucial time for the construction industry as the use of the renewable material continues to rise. It is intended for architects, engineers, educators, regulatory authorities and building industry.

“It is timely now when the interest in wood construction increases and the new European systems for fire safety are implemented across Europe”, says Birgit Östman at SP Trätek a leading technical research institute.
The texts are written by experts and researchers from nine European countries within the WoodWisdom-Net Research project FireInTimber.

There are also brief summaries in seven languages that can be downloaded from the SP website.
