The economic environment in Europe is defined by a severe recession in the Euro zone even though demand and consumer sentiments have stabilised since the beginning of the year. The construction industry in particular is shrinking: in 2008, the construction volume decreased by 2.5 % and a reduction of 4.5 % is expected this year. Nevertheless, EGGER was able to adjust in a timely manner and strengthen its solid foundation. The wood-based material manufacturer continues to pursue its clear strategy: An international presence through organic growth, innovation through new products, technologies and processes, forward and backward integration of essential process steps along the value chain and strengthening employee identification through systematic education and support programmes. This includes the in-house education of specialists and managers in particular.
