3 cheques for €1000 handed over at Interzum
The lightweight.network, which comprises the companies EGGER, Hettich and Rehau, has donated €1000 to academic institutions whose students have designed creative lightweight constructions. The students are studying at the Furniture Trade Technical College, Cologne (Faculty of Economics), the University of Applied Sciences, Coburg (Design), and the University of Applied Sciences Lippe and Höxter (Faculty of Processing Technology).
Norbert Streveld, Furniture Division Manager at Rehau, Bernd Riechers, Hettich Sales and Marketing Director, and Ulrich Bühler, Sales and Marketing Director of the EGGER Group, presented the cheques to the institutions' representatives on the 11th May 2007 at the Interzum. “We're really pleased that the students have put so much effort into the topic of lightweight construction and want to encourage them to continue their work in this pioneering technology”, said Norbert Streveld.
The topic of the competition “Interzum Future Challenge 2007” was to look at the concept of “lightweight construction” from the perspectives of cost, processing technology and design, with particular regard to its future potential. This involved coming up with solutions that could be implemented in the furniture industry and interior design, and that also offer potential for industry, trade and the end user. The designs were exhibited on the ‘boulevard’ at the Interzum trade fair, which took place in Cologne between the 9th and 12th May.
