Raw material Environment

What are the principal components of your boards?
EGGER EUROSPAN® raw chipboards consist of approx. 90 – 92 % wood, 8 – 9.5 % aminoplast resin glue which is poor in formaldehyde, 0.1 % hardener free from halogen and 0.4 % paraffin for water repellent finishing. No other chemicals are used for the production of the products. These specifications are weight percentages and refer to the absolutely dry board substance.

Where does the raw material of WOOD for your wood-based materials come from?
EGGER EUROSPAN® and the products upgraded from it consist of at least 70 – 90 % softwood, which is mainly delivered as residual wood (edgings, sawdust and wood shavings, lop, chips) from sawmills in the vicinity. These sawmills get their raw materials predominantly from sustainably managed domestic forests.

Do you use recycling wood for the production of your products?
For Egger chipboards, which are also used for the production of a large number of upgraded products, one primarily uses thinnings, residual wood like edgings, sawdust and chips from nearby sawmills as well as chipboard residues from in-house production and untreated, recyclable used wood like e.g. pallets, fruit crates and packaging material (within the meaning of the Kreislaufwirtschaftsgesetz - act on closed substance cycle management – and the conservation of resources).

Do you bring your products back into the production process with recycling?
At Egger one recycles used chipboards as well as upgraded and finished products produced of them because of their natural components and brings them back into the production cycle. In order to do this Egger continually works at new and improved methods to separate non-wood attendant materials like e.g. fittings or coatings from the wood-based materials.

How do you utilise wood residues and their products?
The ecologically most useful method of utilising a lot of wood residues is the process of thermal utilisation. At Egger the process and heat energy obtained from thermal utilisation is used for many purposes in in-house production. The use of residual wood, untreated used wood and fruit crates for the production of chipboards represents an important measure to conserve the natural resources.
