Extended approvals for EUROSTRAND OSB 4 TOP and FORMline DHF

08.02.2007

Extended Applications for EGGER construction products

Wood-based panel products manufacturer EGGER has further extended the application possibilities of OSB 4 TOP and DHF with related-to-praxis revised approvals. It means compliance with standards and building laws when applying EGGER wood based panels is guaranteed. The praxis-related revisions make new solutions for construction and installation possible. The extended applications for OSB 4 TOP and DHF have been presented at the BAU`07 in Munich.

DIBt-approval extension for OSB 4 TOP
EUROSTRAND OSB 4 TOP is a completely free of Formaldehyde PU resin bonded type of OSB.  The DIBt approval has been revised for OSB 4 TOP, which allows the structural gluing of nonsanded OSB 4 TOP panels using surface or edge.  This results in clear cost saving compared to the use of sanded panels. Additionally, there are new possibilities for design and installation for load bearing components, like hollow box elements, that can be achieved. Because sanding is not required anymore, the loss of MOE can be avoided and a higher load capacity for approved components is possible. Currently, EUROSTRAND OSB 4 TOP and OSB 8000 are the only OSB types on the market allowing structural gluing of non-sanded panels.
In the framework of the extension of the DIBt-approval, EGGER has also determined the design values for OSB 4 TOP using fasteners in the edge and surface like bar dowel, screws, nails and staples (in the edge). This results in advantages for users because loads can be designed for transmission directly through the OSB panel providing a further unique selling point of both EGGER  OSB 4 TOP and OSB 8000.  Now OSB 4 TOP as well as OSB 8000 can be used as studs and rimboards, fastening the sheathing by staples into the edge.
EGGER provides the advantages of a wide range of thicknesses and timber frame related sizes. OSB 4 TOP is produced by EGGER in a thickness range from 12mm to 40mm, OSB 8000 is available from 20mm to 30mm thickness.

Approval extension also for FORMline DHF
The DIBt approval for FORMline DHF has been extended (FORMline DHF is a moisture-resistant, PU-bonded, medium-density fibreboard).  The DIBt approval extension provides the necessary design values for static design of structures using DHF, according to the new DIN 1052 or to EUROCODE 5 (timber construction) - the approval in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and the Czech Republic. With approval by the authorities for single projects, the use for load-bearing application is also possible throughout the European Community. FORMline DHF is now being tested to EN 622-5:2006 as type MDF. RWH and is CE-marked. FORMline DHF can be sold and used within the EU according to EN 13986 and EN 14964 (Rigid Underlay). The use of DHF as stiffening sheathing during the construction period is now approved.
