“Booking” for MDF

Consistent use of materials and design forms defines the reading room in the new Saxonian federal state library in Dresden

The Saxonian federal state library - state and university library in Dresden, or SLUB for short, had to build all the fittings for its new reading rooms – including almost 900 tables, benches, shelves, cupboard walls, display cases, occasional furniture and lights – itself. When it came to materials, MDF was the universal choice.

Formline MDF from Egger offers unlimited design scope: laser-cut, lacquered or coated with decorative laminates, for example.

For the functional furniture alone, 9600 m2 of Formline MDF in thicknesses of between 15 and 50 mm were used. MDF defines the whole interior; as if to underline the functional design, the walls and ceilings are also panelled in arbitrarily decorated wood-coloured fibreboard complete with milled channels for soundproofing.
