19.09.2006 The significance of lightweight boards for the furniture industry is growing.
This trend has been noted by three companies, EGGER, Hettich and Rehau, who have now got together to set up a development network for lightweight products called "lightweight network". The collaboration in this area is intended to embrace every company that is involved in the process along the supply chain, to the benefit of users and consumers.
The aim is to develop frameless lightweight board systems to series production standards that satisfy the specific requirements of the furniture industry. Besides the three aforementioned companies, the network is keen to expand by including other companies, e.g. machine manufacturers and adhesives producers, as well as universities and research institutes.
The collaboration between the companies covers the development of appropriate solutions for the coating, edging and processing of lightweight building boards, in particular the development of frameless board systems. In its headquarters in St. Johann (Austria), EGGER has installed the world’s first industrial production line for lightweight building boards. The boards produced in the plant are marketed under the name "EUROLIGHT". The use of framed and frameless honeycomb boards means that new solutions have to be found for furniture construction, processing, edging and fastening. Intensive development activities have been underway in these areas for some time. Innovative approaches have been systematically developed by the network prior to their market launch. These will apply in particular to frameless honeycomb boards that have outer layers less than 4 mm thick.
The objective is to offer a complete solution for this area that will give the market a boost in terms of design, manufacturing and logistics and that will allow everyone involved, including customers, to profit from the added value potential.
