01.03.2004 In February EGGER unveiled a new generation of MDF boards at the ZOW furniture supplies exhibition in Bad Salzuflen, Germany.
Thanks to its uniform fibre quality and high density, FORMline® MDF MBC-L can be powder coated. The German product code MBC-L stands for membrane deep-milling quality, compact structure and conductivity. New surface-coating technologies developed at the Fraunhofer Institute mean that powder coating is now a viable option in the furniture industry too. The starting material is still critical, however: with its consistently fine fibre quality, high density with uniform density profile across the board thickness, high internal mechanical strength and superior binder, the new MDF material prevents delamination and cracking at high temperatures. Additives have been incorporated to achieve the lowest possible surface and volume resistance.
Powder coating is becoming increasingly important in the furniture industry because, unlike conventional lacquers, it resists abrasion. This is particularly beneficial for heavy-duty surfaces. The top and bottom of the boards and the profiles are all cast together, enhancing their appearance. New decorative effects can be achieved with powder coating, and for ecologically-minded manufacturers the environmental argument is also important: powder coating generates no paint sludge, and all the overspray can be reused.
