| Piano manufacturer Bösendorfer, together with the New Design University of St. Pölten, has for the first time offered a Design Award in the categories "Design a piano" and "Design a space for a piano". The aim of this award, the winners of which have now been announced, was to draw attention to the importance of the design of spaces in which music is performed.
In the "Design a space" category, the sound-absorbing EGGER EUROFORM ProAkustik® was chosen by the designers, as it proved to be ideal for the task in hand. The microperforated board posseses excellent sound-absorption values. The designers were able to select one of four types of space:
• private music salon up to 70 m2 in size
• concert hall for a music school of approximately 750 m2
• lobby of a luxury hotel (240 m2)
• yacht with a piano and around 70 m2 of space.
The winners were chosen by an independent panel of experts in the fields of design, product development, acoustics and interior design. A large number of entries were received, with the best being exhibited in the Designforum of the Museumsquartier in Vienna.
As can be seen from the photographs, the subject was approached in a wide variety of ways.
