In 1984, EGGER acquired the Weyroc plant in Hexham; it was the first foreign investment for the company.

The plant had originally been built in the early 1960s and was the first chipboard plant in England.

With approximately 500 employees, EGGER is one of the largest manufacturing employers in Northumberland and produces a range of MFC products for the furniture market and tongue & groove flooring for the building market.

To ensure the Hexham site became one of Europe’s most technologically advanced chipboard production plants we launched a series of investments.

To date, the most significant investment has been the £110m extension and modernisation project in 2007 which included:

  • A timber processing recycling plant
  • A new Conti-roll press
  • Environmentally friendly filtration technology and energy plant to reduce the reliance on fossil fuels
  • A 13,200 native tree planting project

We continue our investment programme to ensure EGGER remains a market leader.
Recent projects have seen the completion of a new warehouse and the upgrading of our lamination and impregnation lines.
