Modern administrative building made entirely off EGGER Materials

Description

MORE THAN JUST A WORKPLACE
In order to demonstrate its expertise as a full-range supplier with a concrete example, the wood-based material manufacturer decided to build the new administrative building at the EGGER plant in Radauti, Romania entirely of EGGER materials. “For us as a full-range supplier of wood-based materials, it was particularly important to construct a building that illustrates the application of our entire product range,” says Walter Schiegl, Head of Production/Technical EGGER Group. The modern office building also served as the basis for the EGGER trade fair concept at the BAU 2011 trade fair in Munich.

The new administrative building was realised using modern, multi-storey wood construction in a period of just five months. EGGER materials were used for wood frame construction and interior design. Thanks to its modular structure, the innovative concept is highly flexible and can be adapted to the requirements of any location. “For us, the concept that was developed is more than just an office building. We have also established the foundation for an EGGER architecture that uses all of our products,” Walter Schiegl explains.
Visual design elements of the office building include the copper facade, which makes the wood construction building more lively. Behind that, the highly modern wood frame construction of the three-storey building with a partial basement provides the necessary stability. For the reinforcing wall panels as well as the ceiling, floor and roof elements, EGGER consistently used its structural wood construction products including timber and formaldehyde-free bonded OSB boards.
EGGER products were used in tables, cabinets, partition walls and mobile file cabinets as well as laminate flooring for the interior design of the offices, meeting rooms and showroom.

GOLD ENVIRONMENTAL CERTIFICATE WITH EGGER PRODUCTS
In addition to meeting high quality standards, EGGER products also address key aspects in terms of environmental compatibility and sustainability. The company offers environmental product declarations (EPDs) for all base products in order to support planners and architects in the building certification process. The EPDs serve as the basis for building evaluation.
In order to assess the sustainability of the energy efficient administrative building, its environmental impact was certified by the “Österreichische Gesellschaft für Nachhaltige Immobilienwirtschaft” (ÖGNI) (Austrian Society for Sustainable Real Estate) according to the system defined by the “Deutsche Gesellschaft für Nachhaltiges Bauen” (DGNB) (German Association for Sustainable Construction). EGGER achieved outstanding overall compliance of 84% to obtain the gold seal. Depending on the usage profile, the DGNB certification system incorporates approximately 60 criteria from the fields of ecology, economy, sociocultural and functional aspects, technology, processes and location.
The new administrative building was among the first pilot projects to earn the DGNB gold seal. This certificate once again confirms that modern wood frame construction combines contemporary architecture with environmental compatibility.
